The "peanut headlight" design of the 2000 Mercedes-Benz C-Class originated from the second-generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class (chassis code W203) released in 2000. Its inspiration came from the "four-eye" headlight design of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W210) born in 1995. After clever modification, it evolved into the "peanut" headlight, becoming the finishing touch of the second-generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class exterior design.

The "peanut headlight" adopted the family-style four-round-light design, with contours closer to true circles, resembling a horizontal "8". This design freed the second-generation C-Class exterior from Mercedes-Benz's traditional design thinking, making it appear more fashionable and dynamic. It stood out uniquely at the time and was even imitated by many domestic independent brands.
